Stephen Lyon Waldron
Jul. 28, 1941 - Mar. 2, 1989
Stephen Waldron was the son of Hendrick A. Waldron (1905-1995) and Josephine Klune (1904-1997.) Stephen was born in Illinois but the family put down their roots in South Bend, Indiana where he graduated from Washington High School. His parents, one brother, three sons and one grandson survived him, though the parents have now passed away. Stephen was a member of the Niles Moose Lodge.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Halbritter Funeral Home of Niles and the funeral service was held there. Stephen's remains were then taken home to South Bend for burial. His obitaury can be found in the Niles Star Leader, Saturday, March 4, 1989, Page 2.
Stephen had extensive firefighting experience. At the time of his death he was a member of the City of Niles Fire Department where he collapsed while on duty and died at the age of 47. Because of his duty-death his name is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 2, Row 24. The monument is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of County Center Drive East (north entrance) and N. Telegraph Rd., on Oakland County's complex at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. The memorial has a website on the internet.
