Charles (Chuck) Einar Howes, 59, of Holliston passed away the morning of Sunday, June 13 during a bicycle ride in Virginia. Chuck was born July 19th, 1950 in Evanston, Illinois, to parents John C. and Ina Olson Howes.

Chuck grew up with brothers Scott and William and sister Marci throughout the mid-west. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in English in 1975. Chuck spent 3 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War prior to graduating college.

Chuck was a quiet, gentle, patient man who loved outdoor activities. Since the early 1990s, his hobby of bicycle commuting grew into a passion for long distance riding. He would attend numerous multi-hundred kilometer rides a year, including a couple 1200 kilometer rides. He was 70 miles short of finishing his latest 1200 kilometer ride in Virginia.

Chuck is survived by wife Valerie, sons Nathan, Matthew, Eric, and daughter Ellen. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday June 19 at Chesmore Funeral Home 854 Washington Street, Holliston, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Ellen Howes Support Trust, C/O Middlesex Savings bank, 830 Washington St., Holliston, MA 01746
