Bernard S. Kielton

Bernard S. Kielton Jr.

Oct. 21, 1954 - Sep. 10, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bernard S. Kielton, Jr., a man who touched the lives of many with his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. He peacefully left this world on September 10, 2023, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Bernard, lovingly known as Ben, Benny, B, and Pops, is survived by his ex-wife Colleen, who remained a dear friend and confidante throughout his life. His legacy lives on through his devoted sons, Dennis, Benjamin, Joseph, and Carl, and his daughter, Marcy Williams, and his many “adopted” children who called Ben their 2nd father. Ben was also grandfather to Ella and Mia, whose beautiful lives brought him immense joy.

Born to parents Bernard S. Kielton, Sr., and Barbara Pfaller, Ben's family provided the foundation of love and support that shaped his compassionate, dedicated, and serving nature. Ben dedicated himself to a life of judicial service. He served with distinction as a compassionate Juvenile Probation Officer, and Attorney Referee in Cass County Probate Court, and as a fair and just workers' compensation judge for the State of Michigan. His commitment to justice and his empathy for those who came before him left a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals.

Outside of his professional life, Ben had a deep passion for music. He shared his musical talents as the bass player in the Confederation of Sound, enriching the lives of those who had the privilege of listening to him play. Ben was also a proud 32º Freemason, embodying the principles of brotherhood, charity, and moral integrity. His dedication to the Masonic ideals reflected his lifelong commitment to service and helping others.

A Funeral Mass in honor of Ben's life will be held at St. Adalbert's Church in South Bend, Indiana, at 10:00 am ET on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. We invite all who knew and loved Ben to join us in paying their respects. Following the Mass, we will gather to celebrate Ben's life at Four Winds Field in the Pepsi Stadium Club room at 6:00 pm ET on the same day. Ben's spirit was one of acceptance and inclusion, so we encourage you to come as you are, with a splash of hippie, to honor his memory in a way that reflects his free spirit and open heart.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity close to your heart, as Ben believed in the power of giving and helping those in need. Bernard S. Kielton, Jr. touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever. Please join us in celebrating a life well-lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
