Dorothy Jean Bonk, 63, of Mishawaka, passed away suddenly on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2006.

Dorothy Jean was born January 18, 1943, in South Bend, the daughter of the late Harley and Geraldine (Mossman) Evans. She grew up in South Bend and graduated from Washington Clay High School. On November 30, 1963, Dorothy Jean married Leonard Bonk and the couple lived in South Bend for a few years before settling in Mishawaka.

Dorothy Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking meals for her family. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Dorothy Jean loved playing bingo and enjoyed watching her children throw darts. Her family was an important part of her life and she was dedicated in watching her grandchildren's activities. Other pastimes included walking with friends at UP Mall and listening to her husband's polka band.

Dorothy Jean's surviving family includes her husband of nearly 43 years, Leonard; four children, Leonard (Lori) Bonk of Mishawaka, Cathie Teeter of South Bend, Sherry (Steve) Lanko of Mishawaka and Jenny (Camilo) Colina of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Andrew Teeter, Ryan Bonk, Cory Teeter, Allyson Gates, Jessica Bonk and Samantha Lanko; a brother, Harley Evans of Clearwater, Florida; and her mother-in-law, Ann Kwiecinski of Mishawaka.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tracey Renee Bonk.

Friends may spend time with Dorothy's family today (Wednesday) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund to assist with their daughter Jenny's breast cancer medical expenses. Checks may be made to MFB Bank where the fund has been established. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
