John Arthur Humphrey

Jul. 23, 1935 - Nov. 22, 2015

John A. “Jack” Humphrey, 80, formerly of South Bend, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend, on November 22, 2015. He was born July 23, 1935 to the late John E. and Frances (Keller) Humphrey.

On May 9, 1964, Jack married the love of his life, Virginia S. “Ginny” Dyczko. She preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Amy (Jamie) O’Brien of Granger and Sarah Banning of Westfield, IN; five grandchildren, Jamie Jr., Josh, Meg and Libby O’Brien, and Zach Banning. He is also survived by three sisters, Peg (Cork) Horvath of Allendale, MI, Sharon Lynch of Indianapolis and Jan (Bill) Emery of Plymouth, half-brother, Bill Humphrey of Sturgis, brother-in-law, Chuck (Bev) Dyczko; and sister-in-law, Anne Dyczko; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was a frequent patron at the Villa Macri, a favorite date hang-out with his companion Ade Jozwiak, and the Eagles in Sturgis Michigan, where he had his own table (sit there at your own risk!). His love of Grey Goose and Pabst Blue Ribbon was legendary. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football, tending to his beautifully landscaped yard, and relaxing outside in one of his many “sitting areas”. He was often spotted cruising South Twin Lake on his pontoon boat.

He worked as a salesman at Skyline Corporation and Owens Classic for many years and was the owner of Continental Accessories for 7 years. He was also a proud Air Force Veteran.

Jack’s family would like the thank the staff at the Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, and at Parkview LaGrange Hospital for their kindness and for taking such good care of him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 27th from 4-7PM, with a vigil service starting at 7PM, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30AM, with visitation one hour prior, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
