Walter F. Trowbridge, 67, of South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 7, in Memorial Hospital.

He retired from the South Bend Tribune in 1985 as a pressman after 32 years. He was currently an examiner for the Office of Personnel Management for the United States government.

Mr. Trowbridge was born Sept. 2, 1929, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. On Oct. 17, 1952, in Niles, Mich., he married Norma Jean Thompson, who survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Ann M. Trowbridge of South Bend; a son, Craig W. (Charlene) Trowbridge of South Bend; two granddaughters, Cari Marie and Courtney Jean Trowbridge; one sister, Marian Harwood of Eloy, Ariz.; and two brothers, James Trowbridge of Cambridge, Wis., and Donald Trowbridge of South Bend.

One sister, Martha Jean Finn, and two brothers, Jack and Richard Trowbridge, preceded him in death.

Mr. Trowbridge was a member of The Gideons International and Calvary Baptist Church, and umpired for many years in the Clay Junior Baseball Association. He was a graduate of the former Washington-Clay High School.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. David Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends in the church following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International or to the church.

Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
