KENNETH L. CODDENS

July 30, 1943 - Mar. 24, 2009
MISHAWAKA - Ken L. Coddens, 65, of Mishawaka, IN passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at his home with his wife, Barb, by his side, with the assistance of Hospice, an organization he supported throughout the years. He was born on July 30, 1943 in South Bend, IN and was a lifelong resident. On January 4, 1964, Ken married his high school sweetheart, Barbara R. Simcox.

Ken was a 1962 graduate of Washington Clay High School in South Bend and graduated from International Barber School in Indianapolis. For over thirty-seven years, Ken owned and operated Ken's Studio Hair of Mishawaka, formerly Ken's Den. Through his business, many lifelong friendships were formed and several generations of families have shared in the joy of his enthusiasm.

Ken is survived by his wife, Barb Coddens; son, Daniel (Robbin) Coddens of Marshall, MI; daughter, Teresa (Eric) Crittendon of South Bend; six grandchildren, Owen, Lexi, Bryce, Karlee, Caleb and Lanie; his mother and stepfather, Virginia (Harvey) Martin of South Bend. Also surviving are five sisters, Carolyn (David) Elmore of Coatesville, PA, Peggy (Terry Monroe) Coddens, Sandy Allen, and Christi Rivera all of South Bend, and Vicky (Joe) Chavez of Huntington Beach, CA; two brothers, Richard (Carolyn) Coddens of South Bend and Bill (Linda) Coddens of Chicago; and his sister-in-laws, Sharon Martin of South Bend and Judith Simcox of Mishawaka; and many beloved family members and friends.

His father, Richard Coddens, Sr. and his brother, Paul Martin preceded him in death.

Ken found enjoyment in cheering on the Irish and his other favorite athletic teams. His true passion, besides his family and friends, was golf. We know he will have the courses scouted up in heaven and the tee times set for his golfing buddies. Ken was always willing to listen or share a story whether you were sitting in his salon chair or at a ball game. We'll never forget the jokes that only Ken could tell. He will be remembered for his caring and generous nature. If he was your friend, he was your friend forever. Ken's passion, courage, perseverance and intensity will always serve as a reminder of how to best lead one's life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 53720 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46635.
