Brian P. Block, 56, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:34 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022, due to congestive heart failure.

He was born on November 4, 1965 to Thomas D. and Marilyn A. (Milcarek) Block in Michigan City, IN, and has been a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN.

Brian graduated in 1984 from Clay High School in South Bend, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country for four years.

He worked most of his life as a Custom Painter, working for both Christman Custom Painting and Block’s Painting and Wall Papering in South Bend, IN.

Brian is survived by his three loving daughters, Tagin A. Block of South Bend, IN; Cara L. (Mitchell) Robbins of Niles, MI; Stacey A. Block of Jackson, MI; three grandchildren, Alissa & Hudson Casey; and Veida Van Doren; his parents, Thomas and Marilyn Block of South Bend, IN; two sisters, Melissa (Jeff) Risetter of Valparaiso, IN; Debbie (Mark) Matheis of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Michael (Gayle) Block of Portage, IN; and Douglas (Regina) Block of Bossier City, LA.  Many nieces & nephews; aunts & uncles; and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank (Tressie) Milcarek and Edward (Bernice) Block.

Brian never failed to have a smile on his face with a joke at the tip of his tongue. He was the kindest, goofiest, most optimistic man and spread his joy to others around him.  He dearly loved all of his family,   the days spent with his three daughters and three grandchildren all together were his favorite moments. He was the best “Papa” to his grandbabies and cherished each of them. On any day he could be found with the sports channel playing in the background, he was an avid Notre Dame, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Cubs fan. Ask anybody that knew him and they would say he was all around a great man. He will be missed as we continue this life without him, wishing he was still with us. The precious memories we have with him will remain in our hearts forever.  

Visitation will be Friday, August 26th from 2-8pm at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. We ask that only immediate family attends during the first hour. Brian will be dressed in a Notre Dame shirt; we encourage others to dress in his favorite sports teams to give him a proper send off.  There will be no services.  Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: his daughters, Cara, Stacey or Tagin to help defray funeral expenses.
