Sam Mirkin

June 29, 1931 – October 26, 2021

 Sam Mirkin, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021, at Healthwin Extended Care Facility.

  Born in South Bend, he met his wife Sherril at Indiana University at Bloomington. They raised their family in South Bend. Sam and Sherril were happily married for 64 years.

  Left to cherish his memory are two children, David (Lene) Mirkin of Granger and Kathy (Gilbert) Mirkin of Chicago; two grandchildren, David (Rachel) Mirkin and Adam (Pia) Mirkin; five great-grandchildren: Ryan Mirkin, Eleanora Mirkin and Ava Mirkin all of Lafayette, IN, Carmen Mirkin and Sofia Mirkin both of Land O’Lakes, FL.

  Sam graduated from Washington Clay High School. He did his under graduate work at Indiana University, Bloomington, and received his Law Degree (JD) from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  He practiced law in South Bend for over 50 years at the Mirkin Law firm. He was an active member of Temple Beth-El, as well as many other clubs and organizations. He was a history buff and was an avid reader. Sam was a Movie Reviewer for the South Bend Tribune for over 20 years. He served as a Justice of the Peace and taught college Business Law.  He and Sherrill loved to travel and visited six continents.  Sam was a long time member of the Park Board and was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
