Darlene J. Neiswonger, 71, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Darlene was born September 11, 1946, in South Bend to the late Donald Blakeman and Veronica (Leszczynski). On February 18, 1967 in South Bend, Darlene married William I. Neiswonger who passed away March 12, 2000.
Darlene is survived by her son, Gregg I. Neiswonger, of South Bend, three sisters, Dorene (Randy) Arnold, of South Bend, Bonnie (Steve) Benson, of Centennial, Colorado, and Mollie (Donald) Santaniello, of Bradenton, Florida.
Darlene had worked as a medical assistant at Clay Twp. Clinic for forty years. She was a member of Community Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir and also served as a deaconess. She was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, soccer, working puzzle books, and was a member of the Modernettes Euchre Club. The family would like to extend a “special thanks” to all the nurses and staff at Wellbrooke who provided her with excellent care and compassion. Darlene was a loving mother, sister, and aunt, who will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 6th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Garry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.
