LYNN DINE OBITUARY

INDIANAPOLIS - Lynn Suzette Dine, 56, of Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on March 26th. Her loving husband and son were at her bedside at the time of her passing. She succumbed after a long and courageous 13-year battle with cancer. Her positive outlook was a true motivation for those with whom she came into contact. She never complained and never was heard saying "why me". She was a true warrior, constantly demonstrating that we are not in control of our own destiny, but we can sure alter it with faith, determination and hope. When asked about her illness she would respond, "I did not choose to have this disease, I was selected."

Suzette was born in South Bend, IN on December 13, 1956 to Merl C. and Bethya M. Fahler. Upon graduating from Clay High School, she attended Indiana University, with the intention of majoring in business and accounting.

While attending college, she met the love of her life and husband of 36 years, Jeffrey Dines. She temporarily placed her college education on hold and they were married in South Bend, IN in May of 1977. She had promised her parents that she would complete her college education and she did at a later date. Upon getting married and putting her college education on a temporary hold, Suzette entered the career of law enforcement and became a police officer with the Indianapolis Airport Police Department after graduating the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

After approximately four years, she opted to devote her time and effort to raising their son, Robert Jeffrey. Suzette felt very strongly that a mother should be involved in their child's life and many of her positive attributes were passed on to Robert. She served as a Youth Soccer Coach, participated in many school functions, and served as President of the Mom's Club for the Speedway Varsity football team. While raising Robert, she went back to college on a part-time basis and began to pursue her formal education; however, she had changed her major to nursing, graduating from the IU School of Nursing. The family was very proud of her accomplishment and her nursing career began with the St. Vincent Hospital, where her area of specialty was labor and delivery. She retired at the end of 2012 and the last year and a half she was in management at the St. Vincent Women's Hospital, serving as an Administrative Representative. Suzette had a special place in her heart for animals, especially the dog breed Samoyed. She would often times be seen in public with her companions, Samara and Sasha. Sasha was a rescue dog which Suzette located in Flint, MI while recovering from a bout with cancer in 2007. She treated them like queens and they brought a lot of love and joy into her life. She was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society, the National and Indianapolis Humane Society, and the ASPCA.

The family would like to thank Suzette's many friends for their prayers, support, and encouragement over the years. In addition, a special thank you to Dr. Daniel T. Milton and his staff at the St. Vincent Oncology Unit, Marion County Sheriff John Layton, Chief Eva Talley-Sanders, Major Mike Hubbs, Chaplain Wolley and the entire MCSO family, the James L. Zore Family, the Henry Bosworth Family, the Michael J. Hart Family, the Jereme M. Howery Family, and the Angel M. Rodriguez Family.

Suzette is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey; son, Robert (Amanda); and her dogs, Samara and Sasha. She is also survived by her sister, Nannete K. Fahler; brother, C. Keith (Susan) Fahler; brother-in-law, Robert L. Dine; sister-in-law, Melinda (Tim) McCarthy; mother-in-law, Nancy Dine; along with three nieces and seven nephews.

Suzette was preceded in death by her parents, Merl C. and Bethya M. Fahler; a brother, H. Krege (Phyllis) Fahler; and her father-in-law, Robert L. Dine. Visitation will be Friday, March 29 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Conkle Funeral Home Avon Chapel.

Funeral service will be Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. with a brief visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. at Conkle.
