SAMUEL L. GRABER

Samuel L. Graber July 28, 1952 - May 24, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Samuel LeRoy Graber, 61, of South Bend, died unexpectedly at 5:38 p.m. Saturday, May 24th, at his residence.

Sam was born July 28, 1952, in South Bend, to the late LaDella Mae (Allison) and Herman Graber, and lived in South Bend since returning in 1993 from Texas. He is survived aby three sisters, Brenda K. Breslin (David) of Edwardsburg, MI, Debra Porter (Barry) of Middlebury, IN, and Linda Carter of Mishawaka, IN; brother, Dennis P. Graber (Bonnie) of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was a 1970 Clay High School graduate and received an Associate degree from IUSB in criminal justice. He served as a South Bend City police officer in the mid-1970s. He lived in Seabrook, Texas, for over 10 years and in Alaska for approximately 1 year prior to returning to South Bend in 1993. He retired from the Carpenters Union Local 413 due to disability. Sam was an avid Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football fan. He loved watching sports of all kinds. He enjoyed fishing and adopted several dogs. His most recent, Fiona, was returned to the Humane Society after his passing. He loved watching and feeding the many breeds of wild birds he attracted to his yard. Sam was very generous with his time and would always be there to help someone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A celebration of Sam's life will be held with the family greeting friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31st, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd.
