BRIAN SHAFFER

March 10, 1961 - April 5, 2008
SILVER SPRING, MD - Brian Cecil Shaffer, 47, of Silver Spring, MD, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, in a traffic accident near Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Brian was born in South Bend on March 10, 1961, to Thomas L. and Nancy Shaffer, now of Niles, who survive.

Also surviving are his wife, Patricia Spear Shaffer, whom he married on August 8, 1987, in Lexington, VA, and their daughter, Jessica Lindsay Shaffer, a student at the University of Notre Dame; six brothers, Tom of Ann Arbor, MI, Francis of Tacoma, WA, Joseph of Mequon, WI, Daniel of Bloomington, IN, Andrew of New York, NY, and Edward of Troy, MI; a sister, Mary of Paris, France; and their families.

Brian attended Darden, Clay Middle and Clay High Schools in South Bend. He graduated in 1983 from Indiana University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned an MBA degree and doctorate at the University of California at Berkeley and taught in the business school of the University of Kentucky for five years and at the University of Maryland for the past 12 years.

His funeral Mass will be held in Maryland; arrangements are pending. Collins Funeral Home, College Park, MD, is handling the arrangements.
