Robert "Bob" Casper, 74, formerly of Oakdale Road, South Bend, Ind., residing at his daughter's residence on West Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away in his sleep on Monday morning, May 10, 2004.

On June 4, 1929, he was born to Alvin and Deborah (Bowie) Casper in South Bend, where he had lived all his life. On Aug. 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Betty Ann Helpingstine, who preceded him in death June 10, 1997.

Bob is survived by one son, Larry (Toni) Casper of Louisville; and four daughters, Debbie (Doug) Eley of Mishawaka, Susan (Pat) Warner of Wakarusa, Ind., Lisa Bartkowiak of Mishawaka and Kathy (Greg) Klopfenstein of North Liberty, Ind. He also is survived by 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Marilyn) Casper and Bill (Mary Jo) Casper, both of South Bend; his sister-in-law, Helen Buck of Mishawaka; and brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Gin Thompson of Dayton, Ohio.

Bob was a carpenter by trade and retired from the South Bend Community School System in 1989 after 37 years of service. Bob loved horses and was active in 4-H, serving as a horse and pony leader and member of the advisory board. He and Betty Ann were active American Turner members. He bowled and loved to go camping with the Triple R Club. He loved being around his family, and in his retirement years enjoyed meeting his friends at the Roseland Donut Shop.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. John A. Staples, pastor of New Life Christian Fellowship, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
