RICK MORTAKIS

Rick Mortakis Jan. 6, 1952 - Nov. 3, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Rick Mortakis, 63, of South Bend, IN, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home. Rick was born January 6, 1952 in South Bend, IN to the late Peter C. Mortakis and Phyllis (Aller) Mortakis.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis I. Mortakis of Bremen, IN; brothers, Korde (Cindy) of Larwell, IN and Tarne (Donna) of South Bend, IN, and one sister, Nicole (Greg) Hampton of Plymouth, IN. Several nieces and nephews include: Kyle, Gage, Tarne, Peter, Paige Mortakis and John and April Hampton.

attended and graduated from Clay High School '71 and served with the United States Navy as a Corpsman, serving in San Diego, CA, honorably discharged. Rick also attended Ivy Tech of South Bend studying Commercial Art.

Rick worked for years at ADT in South Bend and worked many years as a Bench Jeweler, learning the trade in Virginia, and continued for 20 years at Images, Elkhart, IN. Rick was 'one of a kind', often boisterous, loud, loved a good joke, and always had a good story to tell. While being very artistically gifted, he was also an avid reader, especially science fiction and history. Rick was a bit of a wanderlust, traveling around this country, gold mining in Colorado, marching at Washington D.C. and Chicago, and traveling to Greece to learn more about his father's ancestry. Rick loved attending auctions, most Saturdays and Sundays finding him among the crowd of bidders and carting home his 'treasures.' Rick was very proud of his nieces and nephews and enjoyed entertaining them with stories of his youth. Rick was baptized in the Greek Orthodox faith.
