SOUTH BEND - Charles Richard Strom, 83, residing in South Bend, passed away at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 19, 2012, in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born in South Bend on December 2, 1928, to the late Alvin and Dorothy (Lemons) Strom, and remained a lifelong area resident.

On September 23, 1950, in the rectory at St. Patrick Parish, South Bend, Charles married the former Dolores Wieczorek, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores, Charles is survived by a daughter, Deanna Strom of Seattle, WA; son, David Strom of South Bend; and six grandchildren, Amelia Strom Hardin of Redding, CA, Abigail Strom Hardin of Charlotte, NC, Nicholas (Alison) Strom of Chicago and Neil, Kathryn and Anthony Strom, all of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Strom.

Charles served his country honorably in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1990 after 35 years with O.J. Shoemaker, Inc., as service department manager and corporate secretary. Charles was a very good provider for his family, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and watching sports, especially Notre Dame football.

Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, August 23, 2012, in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Private entombment will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
