Sondi Louise Pijut (Geminder)

Sondi Geminder
Sondi L. Geminder, 76, of Midland, passed away at the MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland due to COVID-19 on January 10th, 2022, with her husband and son at her side.
Sondi was born in May of 1945 in Rensselaer, IN, daughter of the late George and Helen (Rhuede) Pijut. At the age of 10, she and her family moved to South Bend, IN where she attended school in Clay Township. Sondi graduated from Washington Clay High School in 1963.
During her senior year she agreed to a date with John Geminder and they married in October of 1965. In 1975 Sondi became an unpaid assistant state employee to her husband's career as a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officer. Their first assignment was a three-year stint of living in a state cabin in the Pigeon River County State Forest, the location where Michigan's coldest day ever was recorded. They moved to Midland in 1978 for the last 20 years of John's DNR career. One year later they were blessed with a son, Kevin. In 1986 Sondi and John started their own business in Midland called Bicycle Headquarters. Sondi, as co-owner, ran the business full-time until John's retirement in early 1998. She was then able to work part-time helping customers and taking care of all of the bookkeeping for the business.
Along with the business, Sondi was an active member within the Midland community. She was a proud member of the United Church of Christ (UCC) and of the UCC Juliets. She held many board positions with the church over the years, most recently she was Chair of the Caregiving Ministy Team. She furthered her love and commitment to the community of Midland by volunteering for programs such as the Salvation Army, where she helped make lunches for children, and at the Shelterhouse resale store. Sondi had a love for not just people, but animals too, and was a supporter of the Midland County Humane Society. When Sondi wasn't at the bicycle shop or helping out with community or church projects you could find her at home where she enjoyed reading, cross-stitching and working on puzzles.
Sondi's family, her many friends and fellow UCC members will dearly miss her. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Geminder; son Kevin Geminder; grandson Jacob Geminder; and brothers David (Terri) Pijut and Allan (Trudy) Pijut.
A memorial service is planned at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 1200 West Wheeler Street in Midland on March 26, 2022, at 5:30 P.M. with Reverend Roger Pancost officiating. Sondi's family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 3:30 P.M. until the time of service. In remembrance of Sondi's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made in her name to either Shelterhouse or the Midland County Humane Society. Arrangements for Sondi have been entrusted to the care of the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Directors.
