Wilma Louise Coil

Jan. 31, 1923 - Nov. 9, 2014

Passed away on November 9, 2014. She was born on January 31, 1923 in Mishawaka, IN. Her husband, the Reverend Melvin Coil, preceded Wilma in death in 2010. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary June and Jerry Augspurger, Huntington, IN; her son, Curtis, Bremen, IN; her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Emmett Troyer, The Villages, FL, Connie and John Coleman, Indianapolis, IN and Cathleen and Jim Nevin, Bloomington, IL and 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In keeping with their lifelong commitment to serving others, both Rev. Coil and Wilma bequeathed their bodies to the Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana University School of Medicine. A celebration of Wilma's life will be on Tuesday, December 2nd, from 2 p.m. 5 p.m. at Tippecanoe Place, 620 W. Washington St., South Bend, IN. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate with us and share their memories of Wilma.

∼CARMEL — Wilma Louise O’Dell Coil, 91, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born Jan. 31, 1923, and shared a rich and fulfilling life with her family and many friends.

Wilma’s husband of 70 years, the Rev. Melvin Coil, predeceased her in 2010.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary June and Jerry Augspurger of Huntington; her son, Curtis of Bremen; her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Emmett Troyer of The Villages, Fla., Connie and John Coleman of Indianapolis and Cathleen and Jim Nevin of Bloomington, Ill.; and 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilma touched the lives of many. She was a caregiver her entire life through her nursing positions and as a pastor’s wife in the Missionary Church. She owned and operated the Coil Convalescent Home in Goshen early in her career and later worked at the LaGrange County Hospital and Elkhart General Hospital.

Wilma loved to laugh and she brought many smiles to others. Gardening was her great joy, but her true joy was being of service to others. Wilma will reside in the hearts of the many of those she touched.

A celebration of Wilma’s life will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Tippecanoe Place, 620 W. Washington St., South Bend. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate with us and share their memories and thoughts of Wilma.
