LOGANSPORT - Irene I. Abbott, 94, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport, IN.
Irene was born on April 9, 1924 in South Bend to Elmer and Beryl (Dickey) Sossoman. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Engle, Bertha Michelle and Mary Paturalski and brother, Elmer Sossoman.
On November 22, 1947 she married Robert Abbott; he preceded her in death on May 25, 2002 also her son-in-law, Terry Richard on April 3, 2017.
Surviving are daughters, Carolyn (James) Shell of Logansport and Patricia Richard of Bremen; grandchildren, Kevin (Angel) Shell, Sarah (Todd) Cravens and Todd (Lindsey) Richard; great grandchildren, Aurora Cravens, Nolan and Micah Shell; a sister, Doris Paturalski and sister-in-law, Barbara Sossoman.
Irene was a lifetime area resident; she was a member of Women of the Moose #599. She worked for Uniroyal for 13 years, then devoted her life to raising her family. Later in life she worked part time for Ireland Animal Clinic.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart.
