MISHAWAKA - Barbara E. Kerrn, 76, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 after a brief illness. Barbara was born on September 1, 1939 in Mishawaka as the daughter of McKinely and Eleanor (Annis) Acrey.
On November 2, 1960 in Mishawaka, as Barbara E. Acrey, she married Charles Kerrn who preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded by her parents, her son, Montey Kerrn, her sister, Patsy Freshley, and her long time companion , Larry Kurtz. She is survived by one son, Mark (Jennifer) Kerrn of Elkhart, a daughter-in-law, Drinda Tekker Bokhart of Mishawaka; and three grandchildren, Morgan, Kenny and Kassi Kerrn.
Barbara was employed by Dr. Kemp in South Bend for fourteen years as a clerical assistant. After his retirement she continued her career working at 4 West Family Physicians in Mishawaka, retiring in 2000.Barbara was a member of the American Legion Post 161 Ladies Auxiliary in Mishawaka and a member of the Mishawaka Eagles Club Erie 308. She will be remembered for her kind, warm, and caring personality and her willingness to always help others by putting their needs ahead of her own.
A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held on Tuesday, January 12 at 11:00 am at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the funeral home. As per her request, cremation will take place with private burial in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post 161, 133 Mishawaka Ave. ,Mishawaka, IN 46545.
