Susan J Griffin - Class Of 1988

Clay 1988 Susan J Griffin

Feb. 14, 1979 - Mar. 06, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Susan Jane Griffin, 38, of South Bend, Indiana, earned her angel wings when she passed on Monday, March 6, 2017.

Our angel was born on February 14, 1979 in South Bend to Denice Rudlaff and Larry Griffin who survive, along with her sister, Michelle Grove of Ora, IN. Also surviving are the loves of her life, her nieces, McKenzie and McKayla Giffels who reside in Elkhart as well as her beloved grandmother, Dee Sequin of South Bend; her ‘bonus sister' Amy Wright of Indianapolis; nephews, Samuel and Alex Hardesty; and her ‘besties' Sister Kim Mulhearn and Sister Shannon Fox of Chicago.

Susan's primary passion was the care and guidance of children, and she dedicated many years of service to children in the South Bend Community School Corporation as well as those in Cleveland and Chicago. She spent countless hours preparing lesson plans and activities for the children, using her own money and resources, in hopes of providing a fun and happy way of learning for children. When she wasn't involved with her nieces or other children, she was actively involved with a theater group in Chicago along with the South Bend Civic Theater, working behind the scenes for countless musical productions.

The Catholic faith was also an important part of Susan's life, and she spent many years involved in the youth group of Sacred Heart Parish and later became an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Third Order of St. Francis. For many years, she had pursued the desire to join the religious life. Her family knows that Susan has now fulfilled her dream.

Susan was a 1998 graduate of Clay High School and earned her associate degree in Early Childhood Development from Ivy Tech College.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care given by Nicole and staff at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Sacred Heart Parish Center Chapel, 1873 Moreau Drive, Notre Dame. Rev. Thomas Jones, C.S.C., will officiate. A reception will follow at the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 am on Thursday at Sacred Heart Parish Center Chapel prior to the service. Palmer Funeral Homes-Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or Hannah's House, 518 W. 4th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
