Patricia Ann Craig

Oct. 24, 1958 - Nov. 21, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - Patricia Ann Craig, 60, of Chicago, IL died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, November 21 in Illinois Masonic Hospital, Chicago. Patricia was born October 24, 1958 in South Bend, IN to the late Elizabeth A. (Pflum) and Dr. George Brownlee Craig, Jr. On August 16, 2003 in South Bend, she married Patrick J. Maguire who survives. Also surviving are son, Patrick Maguire (Kelley) of Carmel, IN; daughter, Melissa Seeman (Nick) of Joliet, IL; grandchildren, Aniston and Gavin Seeman, and Teagan and Devin Maguire; sister, Sarah Craig (Bill Pratt) of Niles, MI; nieces and nephews, Madalynn Peterek, Lindsay Craig, Mitchell Peterek (Camille), Dustan Craig, Maureen Craig, Tyler Peterek, and Sean Craig; and sister-in-law, Roberta Craig of Niles, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Craig; and sister, Mary Craig.

Patricia was a middle child born the third of four children and the middle daughter of three. Because of that, Patricia was a strong competitor and many of her friends over the years experienced her heathy debate skills.

Since Patricia was in the second grade she only wanted to be an architect. This experience and growing up seeing her father fight for women's and human rights made her a strong advocate for the same. She was accepted to the Notre Dame Architecture program with high honors. She first practiced in Washington, DC; then she moved to Chicago where she eventually started her own firm, Craig & Associates Architects.

In 1995 she met the puzzle piece to her life, Pat Maguire. They complemented each other perfectly as he is an impeccably skilled tradesman and she the designer. No one could imagine one without the other. When joining their families, Patricia gained two incredible children, Patrick and Melissa Maguire. She loved them and helped shape them into the wonderful adults and parents they are today.

She loved Notre Dame and Notre Dame football. For years Pat and Patricia along with her sister Sarah would host elaborate tailgate parties every home game. The parties became legendary as classmates, relatives and friends would plan their trips to Notre Dame around the tailgate schedule. Patricia's happy place was always her family cottage at Camp Hazelhurst in southwestern Michigan where she spent the summers with family and every weekend as an adult.

Patricia (Aunt Patti) will be dearly missed. As her sister Mary wrote before she died, “Remember me with a smile, not a tear.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 30 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 29 from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Memorial contributions in Patricia's name may be made to The Prairie Club of Chicago, prairieclub@sbcglobal.net. Family and friends may leave email condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
