Susan E Stoltenberg (Spinsky)

Clay 1967 Susan E (Stoltenberg) Spinsky

June 15, 1949 - Dec. 5, 2017

GRANGER - Susan E. Spinsky, 68, of Granger passed away peacefully on December 5 at Hospice House, South Bend with her husband at her side.

Susan was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Darrell and Alverda Stoltenberg on June 15, 1949. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and South Bend where she spent the rest of her life, graduating from Clay High School in 1967. She also took continuing education courses at IUSB. Susan retired in 2015 after a lifelong career as a dedicated and thoughtful administrative assistant and office manager.

Susan met her lifelong partner, Joseph Spinsky, in 1969 and they were married on June 6, 1970, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend. She became a softball widow most springs and summers, although she would attend the games that their daughter played. She also attended numerous volleyball matches that he officiated as well as working at various athletic events with him at Clay High School.

Susan most clearly exhibited her selflessness in raising their only child, Jennifer, and later caring for her aging parents and mother-in-law. She was a willing companion for adventures both ordinary and exotic, whether shopping for clearance rack bargains, riding Space Mountain at Disney World, baking cookies, or hiking the canyons in Arizona.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brian Strahl and grandson, Declan of Mililani, Hawaii; two siblings, Randy Stoltenberg and Kay Starts; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Sharon Spinsky of Mason, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Susan has requested private services. The family wishes to thank everyone who cared for her throughout her last year. They especially want to thank Hospice for their care the past few months, as well as DK Dental and Acoustic Audio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Declan Strahl Education Fund c/o any First Source Bank, South Bend, IN.

Welshemer Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

E-Mail condolences may be made at www.welsheimer.com.
