NILES - Marilyn Ann "Memaw" Johnson, 66, of Janellen Drive in Niles,
passed away in her home after a lengthy illness with her family by her
side. Marilyn was born on January 10, 1942, to the late Earnest and
Mary (Bowers) Summers. She was one of six children raised in the
Summers' household. After graduating from Clay High School in 1960,
Marilyn wed her high school sweetheart, Bud Dean Johnson Jr., at a
ceremony in Niles on July 2, 1960. Marilyn was a homemaker all of her life. This let
her spend as much time with her family as she could. After her children were all grow n
up, Marilyn spent much of her time garage-saling and antiquing. She even ran her
own antique booth that she got much enjoyment from. But when Marilyn's children
had children of their own, her life changed. Every bit of energy and effort was directed
to spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandson. Marilyn was also a lifetime member
of Weight Watchers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bud, and
brother, George Summers. Marilyn is survived by her children, Bud (Theresa) Johnson
III of Niles and Mickie (Alan) Hunt of Niles; granddaughters, Terra (Travis) Croft,
Mandie (Chad) Mitchell, Mistie (Clint) Rhodes, Melanie (James) Pearman and Katie
Johnson; great-grandson, Landon Pearman; a great-granddaughter on the way;
siblings, June Summers of Mishawaka, Frances Rininger of Mishawaka, Ernie (Beverly)
Summers of Grand Rapids, MI, and Beverly (Daniel) Lonergan of Buchanan, MI. A time
of visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Mission Hill s
Memorial Chapel where Marilyn's funeral will be held the following day at 11 a.m.
Pastor Jason Dillenbeck from the Portage Road General Baptist Church will be
officiating. Marilyn will be interred at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens next to her
husband, Bud. Donations may be made in Marilyn's memory to the Niles-Buchanan
