Bernice Lucille Betz, 83, of South Bend died Monday, July 11, 2011 in her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Betz was born April 6, 1928 in South Bend to the late Bertha (Hively) and Dewey McCormick and was a lifetime area resident. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Betz on January 3, 2005. She is survived by her son, James J. Betz (Becky) of Granger, IN; three grandchildren, Travis Betz (Shannon) of Los Angeles, CA, Tracy Betz-Sandifur (Travis) of Indianapolis, IN, and Brittany Fawley (Mark) of Granger; four great-grandchildren, Harper and Emerson Sandifur and Max and Jackson Fawley; two sisters, Mary Lou Mitchell (Leonard) of South Bend and Norma Laughman (Gus) of Tucson, AZ; several nieces and nephews including Jennifer Dilts who stayed very close to her; and her special friend, Pat McQueen of South Bend. Bernice was an avid golfer and bowler and thoroughly enjoyed her membership and friends at Bowler's Country Club. But what gave her life the most joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14th and one hour prior to services on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 601 W.
