Cortney Diggins

Cortney Diggins

November 16, 1969 ~ February 2, 2024 (age 54)

Cortney Diggins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 in South Bend, Indiana. He was born on November 16, 1969 in the same city where he spent his entire life making an impact on those around him.

Cortney had a passion for sports and weight training, but most of all he loved being involved with the youth in his community. He was a true family man who always reached out to check on others when his health allowed it.

He was known for being a giver to those who needed help filling a void in their lives. His mentorship extended beyond just young people-anyone who crossed paths with him felt touched by his wisdom and guidance.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends listening to music or engaging in card parties while savoring good food-except during game time! His sense of humor was unparalleled-so much so that it often left people guessing whether he was serious or joking during casual conversations.

While not perfect, like any of us are, nonetheless when realizing wrongs he would try to right them. The good within him overshadowed any flaws-earning him the title “gentle giant” from those closest to him.

Left behind are his loving wife Orneshia and their children Candreia Diggins, Candace Diggins, Cortney Jr. Diggins, Cortes Diggins, Kayla Diggins, Jason Diggins, Jalen White-Diggins, Jeremiah Diggins, Davea Diggins, Courtney Diggins, Carlos Diggins, Imani Diggins, and Jordan Diggins as well as grandchildren Mi’Kayla, Mi’Kayle, Jataiya, Jayce, Truth, Cayden, Caleb, and Malani.

He was also survived by his Pops Don Sizemore; mothers-in-love Belinda Larry and Bobbi Woods; brothers Curtis (Rochelle) Walton Jr., Quincy (Aaron) McLeod, Edker McLeod Jr., Torrence (Candace) McLeod, Michael (Janice) Diggins, Greg (Bedwinda) Diggins, Monroe (Debbie) Diggins, Donald (Debra) Diggins; special nieces LaKisha, Jade, Taylar, and Alexandria. Special cousin Sam Diggins Jr., special friends Corey Richardson, Tommy Hunt, Bruce Dudley, Ryan Holloway, and Resha Johnson along with numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by several loved one including his father Monroe Diggins Sr., mother Shirley Love-Sizemore, paternal grandparents Dempsey and Bennie Diggins, maternal grandparents Lerory Sr. and Cora Love, sister Cherise Diggins, brother Carlos McLeod, brother Jermaine Diggins, and son Cornell Taylor.

A private service for the family will be held.

A memorial service will also be held for those who cherished Cortney’s presence throughout their lives. The memorial will be held Thursday, February 8th from 6pm-9pm at the Charles Black Community Center. 3419 W Washington St, South Bend, IN 46619.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you honor Cortney’s memory through supporting our youthstanding up where he cannot continue to guide them toward success.

Remembering the words “WHAT IT DO!”. Let’s keep alive the spirit of this remarkable man whose legacy will forever live on through each one of us whose lives were touched by knowing him.
