SOUTH BEND - Former South Bend resident Joan M. Roth, 81, of St. Joseph, MI died at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Cartel Inn, St. Joseph. Mrs. Roth was born June 27, 1932 in Colfax, WI to the late Mildred (Wirth) and Selmer Hestad and lived most of her life in the South Bend area until moving to St. Joseph two years ago.

On April 23, 1955 in South Bend, as Joan M. Hestad she married Douglas J. Roth who preceded her in death November 28, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda J. Roth and brothers, Roger and James Hestad.

She is survived by a daughter, Ronette C. Vincek of St. Joseph; sons, Randall D. Roth (Mary Jo) and Ryan K. Roth (Sherri) both of St. Joseph and Rodney J. Roth of Mishawaka, IN; seven grandchildren, Adam Roth, Autumn Roth, Emily Roth, Hunter Vincek, Grace Vincek, Cody Roth, and Brianna Roth; brother, Denis Hestad (Linda) of Granger, IN; and sisters-in-law, Jane Hestad and Carole Hestad both of Granger.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma who dearly loved her family. She was a wonderful homemaker & cook, and loved to entertain large groups of family & friends. She also loved making floral arrangements and decorations/crafts for special occasions. Everyone adored her great sense of humor. Joan enjoyed traveling about the country & world with her husband and family. She also took great delight in helping her husband landscape and decorate their home, and doing volunteer hospital work. To the end, she liked being able to help others, and would try to help the other residents in her assisted living complex who were in wheel chairs get around and turn on their lights for them. She will truly be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. with Rev. Robert Duehlmeyer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sodus, MI officiating. Committal services and entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends today, April 15th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 225 N.
