Robert B. Baltosser

ELKHART - Robert B. Baltosser, 83, of Goshen, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Valley View Healthcare Center due to an illness.

He was born Aug. 5, 1934 on the Krisher Homestead in Williams County, Ohio to Forrest and Katherine (Krisher) Baltosser.

On Nov. 6, 1953 he married Sandra Clark at Bertrand Bible Church in Niles, Michigan. She survives. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Szlanfucht of South Bend; a son, David (Janet) Baltosser of Warsaw; two grandchildren, Amy (Weston) Sigler and Travis (Barbara Ellen) Baltosser; and six great-grandchildren, Drew, Karris, Brooke and Ava Sigler, and Grant and Julie Baltosser.

Robert asked Jesus to be his Savior on Aug. 23, 1952. He graduated from Washington Clay High School in South Bend and began working at Frank's Grocery. Employed by Indiana Bell, later called AT&T, he served in management before retiring after more than 33 years of service. After retirement he, along with two buddies, started their own business, MCB Communications, Inc. On Feb. 14, 2010 he decided to close shop after 25 years.

Robert invested more than 24 years with the United States Navy SeaBee Reserves serving as Construction Electrician Chief, and was Chief Petty Officer in charge of MCB South Bend Detachment 9-39, Ninth Naval District, Reserve Mobile Construction Battalion 26 South Bend Unit. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church and was a life member of the Goshen Historical Society, where he served on the Board of Directors. He did volunteer work at the Goshen Historical Museum and Elkhart County Museum analyzing historic architecture of the county. Robert was also a life member of South Bend Pioneers and helped start SALTS Senior Group (Seniors Always Loving the Savior). He built many cars and owned over 65 vehicles. He enjoyed antique guns, fishing, traveling, hunting mushrooms, collecting stamps, working and spending time with his family.

The family wishes to thank Heart to Heart Hospice of Northern Indiana for their care of Robert.

Visitation will be Sat., Dec. 30, from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon, funeral service at Nappanee Missionary Church, 70417 St. Rd. 19, Nappanee.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Heart to Heart Hospice of Northern Indiana or the donor's choice.
