Steven W. Haley

March 4, 1987 - August 12, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - Steven WesLee Haley, 31, of South Bend died unexpectedly at 11:30 a.m. in his residence. Steven was born March 4, 1987 in South Bend and was a lifetime area resident. He is survived by his mother, Connie L. (Duckworth) Haley of South Bend; his father, Richard B. Haley II (Kelly Rickard) of Pittsboro, IN; his brother, Richard B. Haley, III of South Bend; and his stepsister, Alyssa King of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved cat Stretch, his constant companion. All were blessed by his life and will forever miss him.

Steven was a kind, compassionate, modest, talented person with a quick wit, who was a great help and comfort to his loving mother and brother, as well as numerous friends.

He graduated from Clay High School in 2005 and studied the culinary arts at Ivy Tech prior to his employment as a chef at several South Bend establishments. He was currently the Head Chef and Kitchen Manager at the newly opened South Blend Cafe in the LaSalle building, where he took great pride in the menu and creating the weekly specials. One of his signature dishes was a Portobello mushroom burger and another called “The Cure”.

Steven always looked forward to family gatherings and holiday dinners, where he was a magnet for kids and the elderly alike. He could often be found in the kitchen helping his mother with the Thanksgiving turkey and preparing the holiday tradition - Grandma Perry's dumplings!

He loved music, held a brown belt in Taekwondo, had a flair for photography, enjoyed fishing, frisbee golf, and was a Black Hawk's fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 17 at 12:00 p.m., in St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Rd., with Rev. Terry Coonan and Rev. David Link officiating. The family will receive friends in the church at 11 a.m., one hour prior to the Mass.
