ISADORE MIRKIN

Isadore Mirkin Aug. 25, 1918 - Aug. 10, 2014 AVENTURA, FL - Isadore "Izzy" Mirkin, 95, formerly of South Bend, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 10, 2014 in his home. Born in South Bend on August 25, 1918, he was the son of the late Jacob and Amy Mirkin.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Molly, in 2007. Those left to cherish his memory include son, Phillip B. (Monica) Mirkin of Pembroke Pines, FL; step-daughter, Barbara (Lenard) Wolfson of Indianapolis; a brother, Sam (Sheryl) Mirkin of Granger; two granddaughters, Camilla and Sophia Mirkin of Pembroke Pines; four step-grandchildren, Phillip (Adrian) Frank, Lainie (Steve) Hurwitz, and Clair (Brian) Jacobson, all of Indianapolis, IN, and Marty (Kim) Price of Houston, TX; and ten step-great-grandchildren, Ellen and Jackson Frank, Max, Isaac and Ethan Hurwitz, and Rachel, Cate and Molly Jacobson, all of Indianapolis, and Marley and Blake Price of Texas.

Izzy played travel basketball for Clay High School and loved to ride his motorcycle, even riding it to Alaska once. He drove a school bus for Clay Township and was the owner of the Barrel Restaurant, a South Bend landmark. Izzy was very handy and loved to fix things, even building his own home on Cleveland Rd. He was dearly loved and very well liked by his family and friends. He will be missed very much.

Funeral services will be Thursday at noon in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN, with Rabbi Michael Friedland of Sinai Synagogue officiating. McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial donation, in Izzy's name, to the charity of your choice.
