SOUTH BEND - Jimmy Warren, age 82, died on Sunday, January 28, 2018 around 11:00 am, after succumbing to a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a resident at Healthwin Specialized Care Center, South Bend, IN. Born January 21, 1936, Jim grew up in Nappanee, IN and remained in the vicinity throughout his lifetime. Jim graduated from Nappanee High School, then went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree from Anderson College, Anderson, IN and a Masters of Education from Ball State University, Muncie, IN.

He was active in sports during college, playing basketball for Anderson College. Jim pursued a career in secondary education at John Glen High School in Walkerton, Clay and Riley High Schools in South Bend. He taught health, biology, physical education, and driver's education for 40+ years and retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation in 1997. During retirement, Jim pursued travel, woodworking, and golf. In 1958 he married Joyce Weisser in Nappanee. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past June. He was a long-time member of Granger Missionary Church, Granger, IN where he demonstrated servant leadership in the roles of usher and teacher. Jim enjoyed telling jokes and getting folks to laugh, and helping others. He was an avid sports fan and received fulfillment from sharing his woodworking crafts with others.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Warren; sons, Todd (Cherrill) Warren of Blaine, MN, Tim Warren of Boca Rotan, FL, and Ty (Pamela) Warren of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Roxanne Warren, Raeleen (Daniel) Rowe, Bailey Warren, and Rachel and Emily Warren; and sister, Virginia Krou of Nappanee, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lula Warren; and sisters, Margaret and Janie.

Family and friends may call from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Funeral Service on Friday, February 2, all at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Pastor Robert Renner of Sturgis Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

A luncheon will follow the funeral services.
