Jack L. Szlanfucht

Jack L. Szlanfucht, 85, of Osceola, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 surrounded by his beloved family. Jack was born in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Helen (VanHolsbeck) Szlanfucht. He graduated from South Bend Washington-Clay High School in 1956. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy from September 25, 1956 until his honorable discharge on September 6, 1960. He attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He served aboard the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) and the USS Ranger (CVA-61), along with serving at NAS Miramar. He served as an aircraft mechanic and earned a rate of AMS3 E-4. Jack earned NAtional Defense Service and Good Conduct medals for his service.

Beginning on July 20, 1963, Jack enjoyed a 54-year marriage with Shirley (Fastabend) Szlanfucht. They attended Osceola United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed bowling, going to church, and spending time with his family and friends. JAck worked primarily as a tool and die corrector in the aluminum extrusion industry, at ILC and Elixir Industries, for over 30 years.

Jack has returned to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but left behind many loved ones who will miss him dearly. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his brother Walter Szlanfucht. He is survived by his children, Michael Szlanfucht of Osceola, Dale (Patricia) Szlanfucht of Climax, MI, and David (Jennifer) Szlanfucht of Lee's Summit, MO; three grandchildren, Hailey and Regan Szlanfucht of Lee's Summit, MO and Austin Harrington of Climax, MI; his half brothers, Bill (Karen) Peak of New London, NC and Larry (Laura) Peak of Juanacatlan, Mexico; along with many nieces and nephews.

In honor of Jack's wishes, a private cremation committal will take place. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 and Osceola United Methodist Church are assisting the family with the arrangements.
