Sylvester A. Turner

Sylvester A. "Red" Turner, 44, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8:26 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, as a result of an automobile accident in Rockingham, N. C. He was born to Raymond and Delores Hale on April 2, 1954, in South Bend, the first-born of ten children. He was a 1972 graduate of Clay High School in South Bend, and belonged to several chess clubs in various states around the country.

Mr. Turner was self-employed as a sub-contractor in the construction industry. 

He is survived by his parents; five children, Jamey R. Turner, Adriel Turner and Rebekah Turner, by his first wife, Diana Turner of South Bend, Kaitlyn Turner and Jonathan Turner, by his second wife, Elizabeth Smith of Texas; his companion, Carol Jopp, with whom he resided; five brothers, Raymond Turner of South Bend, Joel Hale of Mishawaka, Ind., John and Glen, both of Elkhart, Ind., and Ernest Hale of Burleson, Texas; four sisters, Lois Ewing, Hazel Tyler and Edna Andrews, all of South Bend, and Loretta Hale of Mishawaka; fifteen nieces and nephews; and by two great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, with Reverend Edward D. O'Connor, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
