Earl E. Bailey, 81 of Granger, died on Friday, June 24, 2011 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

Earl was born on November 20, 1929 in Elkhart, IN, to the late Tennis and Esther (Barthel) Bailey. Earl graduated from Washington/Clay High School in 1947. Earl served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin Airlift, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. On June 6th, 1953 while stationed in Berlin, Germany, Earl married the former Ingeborg L. Hofmann. Earl and Ingeborg just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. After his military service, Earl attended and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1957.

Earl is survived by his wife, Ingeborg and their four children, Susan Bailey of Nashville, TN, Karen (Daniel) Cottrell V, of Commerce Township, MI, Kevin Bailey of Granger, IN and Brian (Beth) Bailey of Terre Haute, IN. Earl was a loving and caring grandfather to six grandchildren, Christina (Shawn) Witt, Daniel (Christa) Cottrell, Elizabeth Cottrell, Trace Bailey and his mother Laura Bailey, Andrew (Laura) Jack and Maren (Michael) Patterson. Earl is also survived by his sister-in-law, Traudel Altmann of Berlin, Germany. Earl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family most of all.

Earl retired from Uniroyal in 1991 after 34 years of service. After retiring Earl continued to maintain and run his family's roadside fruit and vegetable stand at his home. Earl was a member of the Granger Lions Club for 37 years, an Indiana University Alumni life member, Parent & Teacher Association life member and a member of the Berlin U.S. Military Veterans Association and the Berlin Free & Accepted Masons. Earl was a life- long member of the Granger Presbyterian Church. Earl and Ingeborg enjoyed traveling and spending time together with family and friends

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Bubb Funeral Chapel 3910 N. Main St, Mishawaka. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 29, 2011, with Rev. Larry Boutelle officiating at the funeral home. Burial is to follow the service at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
