Charles A. Grove

Charles A. Grove, 62, residing in South Bend, passed away at 2:24 pm Friday, August 14, 2015 in Memorial Hospital. He was born November 28, 1952 in South Bend to the late Kenneth E. and Teresa M. (Jones) Grove, Sr., and remained a lifelong area resident.

Charles was a graduate of Clay High School. He proudly served his country for 13 years in the United State Army. He then went to work in building services at the University of Notre Dame, from which he retired in 2008.

Surviving Charles are his daughters, Michelle M. Grove of Sebring, FL and Susan J. Griffin of Chicago, IL; granddaughters, McKenzie and McKayla Giffels; siblings, Kenneth E. (Bev) Grove of Altis, OK, Deborah E. (John) Easum of New Carlisle, IN, Elizabeth A. (Gary) Schaal of South Bend, Mark H. (Christine) Grove of Mishawaka, Maryellen (David) Knebel of Mishawaka and Patrick J. (Paula) Grove of Buchanan, MI; and stepsister, Judy (Vic) Neese of Osceola; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Charles was married to Denice M. Rudlaff for a period of time, and they remained close friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul D. Grove in January 2008.

Charles enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a collector of unusual antiques, including watches, steins and bells. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed a good cigar on occasion, as well as telling everyone about his dogs. Charles will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services for Charles will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 20, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Private graveside services and burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 - 1:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home prior to services.
