Judith Marie Van Es (Hummell), age 71 of Granger, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on the morning of May 2, 2026.
Judi was born on December 25, 1954, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to James and Marie Hummell, who both survive her. She was married to Anthony (Tony) Van Es for 51 years and had two boys, Anthony and Adam. She was a bookkeeper by trade, but sewing and creating were her passions. She spent time making pillowcases for children’s hospitals, store-quality purses and bags, and car seat ponchos for the cold Indiana winters.
Judi loved to find bargain buys at the stores, watch HGTV, and play games on her phone. She was also known for her love of cats – even bringing one home from work, fittingly named Allie Cat.
She loved her family and grandkids, making sure there was always plenty of snacks around, and trips to Target when they were young never left them empty-handed. She had a sweet tooth at times for Junior Mints and anything Hostess...and made a mean spaghetti sauce! You always wanted to be on the list to get the leftovers.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew her.
She is survived by her father and mother, James and Marie Hummell; Her husband, Anthony M. Van Es, Jr.; her sons, Anthony M. Van Es, III (Bethany); Adam Van Es (Alicia); her grandkids, Nicholas, Vincent, and Peyton Van Es; her brother James Hummell (Elaine), and her nieces and nephew.
At this time, there is no service or celebration planned. The family thanks you for all the ongoing support and love.
