Mark Edwin Smedley 60, of South Bend died Sunday July 7, 2019, at home. He was born Sept. 20, 1958, in South Bend, to and Alice L. (Peterson) and Lawrence E. Smedley
Mark was a graduate of Clay High School and attended IUSB. He was a cabinet maker at Forrest River RV in Elkhart, IN. He was a devoted son and helped as a caregiver with his mother, and together they were avid Notre Dame Fans. He was best known by his niece and nephew as the Beanie Baby Uncle, because every other week he would visit and bring Beanie Babies. His hobbies included traveling to Southern Indiana and doing genealogy and family history. He was a member of the Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and 4H. His dog Axel was his faithful companion and was with him until the end.
He is survived by a sister Linda (Jay) Haughee, of Leesburg, and a brother Timothy Smedley of South Bend, two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Karen Jordan, and one brother David Smedley.
The family has entrusted Welsheimer Funeral Homes, South Bend, with the final arrangements. Cremation will take place, no visitation is planned and his burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
