Lawrence C. Towne

Lawrence "Lance" C. Towne III

January 26, 1965 ~ June 30, 2025 (age 60)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Lawrence Towne, known affectionately as “Lance” by his friends and family, of South Bend, Indiana, on June 30, 2025.

Born on January 26, 1965 in South Bend, Lance lived a life full of joy, curiosity, and adventure. He had a special fondness for scary movies, antiquing, Notre Dame football game days, and making those around him laugh.

Lance was a proud alumnus of Clay High School and furthered his education at Indiana University South Bend. His professional life was marked by dedication and service, having been employed in landscaping at Edwardsburg public schools and previously at Saint Mary's College. Lance's work ethic and his ability to fix and maintain almost anything were legendary, earning him respect and gratitude from colleagues.

On June 24, 2023, Lance married the love of his life, Jaime Maitland, in a beautiful ceremony by Pastor Larry Chrisman at Coalbush United Methodist Church in Mishawaka, Indiana. This union was a source of immense joy and companionship for Lance. He was a devoted husband; a loving father to Carson, Elijah, and Macie; and a caring (albeit somewhat annoying) brother to Beth Towne. He also leaves behind his dear friends Veronnica Kenreich, Tim Wirtz and Tom Stimson with whom he had the best of times.

As a father, brother, husband, uncle, cousin or a friend, Lance was the kind of person who brought a sense of fun and ease into every relationship and situation. He had a naturally laid-back personality that made people feel comfortable, and he never took life too seriously. Lance was a big kid at heart — always ready to laugh, crack a joke, pull a prank, or turn an ordinary moment into something memorable. Whether he was playing around with his kids, playing a joke on his sister, or just enjoying a quiet evening with his family, Lance had a way of making life feel a little lighter.

His playful spirit and easygoing nature were at the heart of who he was, and those qualities will be remembered by everyone who loved him.

Lance is survived by his wife, Jaime; children, Carson (Emily) Towne, Elijah Leitch, and Macie Leitch; and sister, Beth (Christopher Murphy) Towne, and his niece and nephew, Samantha and Ian Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Towne and Marcia Jane Cole Towne. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many lives he touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the memories and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.

A celebration of Lance’s life will be held at a later date in autumn of 2025.  Palmer Funeral Home—Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Contributions in memory of Lance may be donated to American Heart Association, 300 S. Riverside Plaza, Chicago, IL 60606.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
