Louis Joseph Lanthier Jr.

Mar.19, 1930 - Mar. 12, 2021

SOUTH BEND, IN - Louis Joseph Lanthier, Jr., 90, passed away on Friday evening, March 12, 2021 at his residence in South Bend, IN. He was born on March 19, 1930 in South Bend, to Louis Joseph and Margaret (Clement) Lanthier, both of whom preceded him in death.

On June 18, 1955 in South Bend, Louis married the former Geraldine “Deannie” Russell, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of more than 65 years, Louis is survived by his daughters, Christine Gallegos of South Bend and Angela (Leo) Sims of Cape Canaveral, FL; and three grandchildren, Joel Gallegos of Walnut Creek, CA, Joshua Gallegos of Roanoke, VA, and Angelica Sims of Las Vegas, NV. In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Lanthier.

Louis was an outdoorsman. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and canoeing, as well as being an avid reader. He built a cabin on the river, where he liked to do some fly fishing and floating in an inner tube down the Little Manistee River in Irons, MI. In 1985, he sold the cabin on the river and built, by himself, a cottage on Big Bass Lake in Irons, where he taught his grandsons how to bait a hook and drive a boat.

Louis was employed as a pattern and cabinet maker for Uniroyal. He retired in 1989, after 40 years of service. After his retirement from Uniroyal, he had a successful business, refacing kitchen cabinets and building custom cabinets. Louis served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Panama as a MP during the Korean War.

In keeping with Louis' wishes, no services will be held at this time. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Contributions in memory of Louis may be donated to American Heart Association-Midwest Affiliate, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674; or Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
