Chris Arthur Aichele

Chris Arthur Aichele, 76, of South Bend passed away peacefully at home Monday December 12, 2022.
Chris was preceded in death by his daughter Heather Aichele, and his parents Arthur and Cleora Aichele. Chris is survived by his daughter Lisa (Matt) Lockhart and his grandchildren Christian Johnson, Rebecca Sims, Nathan Sims, and Aaron Lockhart.
Jim Whiteman, Chris's lifelong friend summed up his life best:
"Chris graduated Clay HS in 1964, where he was in band (cornet), debate society, Explorer Post dance band and a class officer among other activities. He graduated Indiana University with a major in business in 1968. After graduation he joined the Army and served as a training officer at Fort Campbell, Ky and transportation officer in Vietnam where he said that his primary duty was “driving Sealand trucks (supplies) through the boonies so the VC could get in their target practice”. He was cited for valor. After military service he returned to South Bend where he started a printing then later a cleaning business. The thing he was most proud of were the two daughters he raised. He is survived by Lisa and her family. Chris can be described as student, soldier, businessman, father, grandfather and to me a friend."
Everyone that knew him always said what a great guy he was. He was the best father and grandfather a family could ask for and he is deeply missed.
Chris did not want a memorial service so a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
