Edward George Jr. Grunawalt

Edward George Grunawalt Jr.

September 11, 1956 ~ April 29, 2026 (age 69)

Edward George Grunawalt, Jr., known to many as Ed or Eddie, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at Hospice House in Mishawaka, leaving behind a life that was as bold, and unforgettable as the man himself.

Born on September 11, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana, he spent his years doing what he did best, which was making people laugh, keeping things interesting, and reminding everyone that life was meant to be lived with a little speed and a lot of personality. Ed was the kind of man who never entered a room quietly and had the rare ability to turn an ordinary moment into a story worth retelling. While always sporting a grin, Eddie had an endless back pocket full of punchlines, as well as a touch of mischief, to keep people on their toes.

Ed graduated from Clay High School in 1975.

Ed worked as a highly skilled flooring contractor, a profession that suited his strong work ethic, and practical know-how. He understood the value of doing a job right.

Above all else, Ed adored his  beautiful daughters. He is survived by his three daughters, Stephanie (Daniel) Zych, Ashley (Kyle) Haimbaugh, and Taylor (Andrew) Maes. Being their father was one of the great joys of his life. He also leaves behind five grandsons, Neven, Maksim, Talon, Parker, and Cash, and one granddaughter, Audrina.

Ed is also survived by his brother, Kevin (Kim) Grunawalt and his sisters, Karin (Bruce) Wirick, and Linda Moon. Along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Mary Lou Grunawalt.

He was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and NASCAR, two passions that suited his love of excitement, loyalty, and the occasional emotional roller coaster. In many ways, that was Ed himself. He was fast with a joke, quick with a smile, and never afraid to go full throttle.

Edward Grunawalt Jr. leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, friends who will miss his presence, and countless memories that will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and probably a few “you had to be there” stories for years to come.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements and extends their deepest sympathies to the Grunawalt family.

Wow!! I haven't seen you in awhile, and now I know why. Ed use to come in to Gates of Granger for his oil changes. I haven't seen him in the last year. I texted him about our last class reunion, and was hoping to see him there. He told me he was going to go, but did not see him. God Bless you Ed.
