James F. Webber, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday evening, November 17, 2025 at the Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka. He was born on February 23, 1935 in Center, IN, to Wyman and Loretta (Carter) Webber.

On September 5, 1959, James married the love of his life, Janice Jones in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of South Bend. Janice preceded him in death on July 16, 2021.

Also preceding James in death were his parents and his siblings Wyman Jr., Edward, William, Archie, Charles, Evelyn, and Harold.

James is survived by his four children, Scot (Marsha) Webber, Shelly (Kevin) Baumgartner, Krista (David) Okrzesik, and Sherri Houser. Over the years, this family would grow to include nine grandchildren, Rachael (Kristin) Baumgartner, Lydia (Chris) Walsh, Adam (Brian) Baumgartner-Killen, Caitlin Webber, Badge Webber, Callan Okrzesik, Lawton (Dawn) Houser, Hunter Houser, Haydon Houser; five great-grandchildren, Finn, Amelia, Huxley, Payton and Deklan, who is already in Heaven.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force obtaining the rank of sergeant. James worked as a substation mechanic at I & M Electric Company for 37 years until his retirement in 1997.James played basketball for Washington Clay High School and traveled throughout Europe, playing basketball with his Air Force base team. He was also a fast pitch softball pitcher in Mishawaka for many years and helped two teams reach the semifinals in state tournaments. Not one to be idle, James worked part-time after his retirement for K & B Appliance and Family Time Pool. James also worked in the Notre Dame football program room during home games for over 50 years.

James enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, reading, crossword puzzles, watching Notre Dame football games, Indiana Fever basketball and Gunsmoke reruns, and spending time with his friends. More than anything, James loved spending time with and helping his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Friends may gather with the Webber family for a memorial visitation from 4:00-7:00pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. A flag service will begin promptly at 4:30 during the visitation. A private graveside service and interment of James’ ashes will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka on Janice Webber’s birthday.
