Thomas Severs

October 29, 1959 — June 13, 2025

Thomas Lee Severs, also known as Tom & Unkie, has passed on into the loving arms of his Lord Jesus at the age of 65 on June 13, 2025

Surviving is his mother Sandra, and brother Robert (Pamela) Severs. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; Brady (Shannon) Severs of Fishers, IN, Brittany (Tyler) Mrozinski of La Porte, IN, Bronson Severs of Indianapolis, IN, Bailey Severs of Fishers, IN, and one great niece, Millie Mrozinski.

He loved his family dearly and treasured the time spent with them. He had a close relationship with his late father Clyde T. Severs where they enjoyed many fishing trips together.

Tom graduated from Clay High School, South Bend, IN and went on to attend Holy Cross Jr. College, Notre Dame, IN., and Ball State University in Muncie, IN.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially football, baseball, and softball. He felt a closeness to sports being his father and brother were high school coaches. During his life time he had the motivation to help people. Even though he was wheelchair bound with cerebral palsy, and needed help with all of his special needs, he was able to reach out and touch others with his love for them.

Tom served as Deacon and Elder in his church, The Presbyterian Church of La Porte, and served on many committees. He had a gift for inspirational writing, contributing to the church newsletter, and had a collection of short stories and a published book.

During his time living in South Bend (from 1966 to 2002), he was a charter member of RAP (Really Able People) a social group of adults sponsored by United Cerebral Palsy. He later formed a social group of physically disabled adults "The Warren Harbor Challengers" sponsored by the United Church of Christ in South Bend. After moving to La Porte in 2002, he started another social group, "The Circle of Friendship" sponsored "The Presbyterian Church of La Porte".

The computer was his daily companion keeping in touch with his friends. He also enjoyed music, TV, and playing cards. Those twinkling eyes and sunshine smile will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, June 18 from 9 am until service time at 10 am at "The Presbyterian Church of La Porte. Pastor Jane Anabe will be the officiating the service. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, IN.
