Dorothy R. Richards (Jennings) - Class Of 1940 VIEW PROFILE

Dorothy R. Richards (Jennings)

Dorothy R. Jennings

Jul. 22, 1922 - Feb. 16, 2013

SOUTH BENDDorothy "Dot" R. Jennings passed away after a long illness the evening of February 16, 2013, surrounded by her family at the Healthwin Specialized Care facility.

The daughter of Curtis and Irene Richards, Dorothy was born in Canada as an American citizen, while her father worked on a farm there.

After graduating from Washington Clay High School, she then married Earl "Red" M. Jennings in Ohio in 1941, and then moved to South Bend. There she was a devoted wife and mother and also worked various jobs in the community. When her husband retired, they moved to Homosassa, Florida, until he preceded her in death in January 1988. She eventually moved back to South Bend to be with family.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Jennings of Apache Junction, AZ, and Dennis (Patricia) Jennings of South Bend. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeffrey of Rimrock, AZ, Lori (Andy) Pallo of South Bend, and Carrie (Tracy) Niezgodski of South Bend; along with great-grandchildren, Ben and Dominick Pallo of South Bend, and Kalie and Mallory Niezgodski of South Bend.

Besides her husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Beverly (Michael) Jennings of Arizona.

Dorothy had many friends in life through being a former Matron of Honor with Eastern Star before moving to Florida. While in Florida, she joined the TOPS group and continued with that group after moving back to South Bend, where she served as the group's leader. She also helped with making quilts with the group from Lakeville United Methodist Church. She loved socializing with her friends, and never had a bad word to say about anyone who she ever met.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Healthwin for the great care they gave mom during her time there.

There will be no visitation and she will be cremated, after which she will join her husband in Florida at a later date. McGann Hay Funeral Home is in charge of any arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend.
