Daniel Dean Becker

Daniel Dean Becker

Jul.30, 1925 - Jul. 28, 2008

Daniel Dean Becker, 83, of North Ft Myers passed away quietly and unexpectedly last week while attending an educational summer program at Principia College in Illinois with his loving wife, Alice. The two were on a cross country adventure by car that would have taken them as far west as Tacoma, Washington where son David and his family live. Dean's other son Tim and family, who live in Tampa, were to join the reunion.

Dean was happily married to Alice Pfalz for the past several years during which they traveled, enjoyed cruises and the loving, devoted and inseparable companionship of each other.

For 44 years, Dean was married to Joyce Becker until her passing in 2004. They too enjoyed traveling and exploring the world together. They met while attending Purdue University and raised their three sons in South Bend, Indiana and Houston, Texas before retiring to North Ft Myers in the 1980's. Son Jeffrey passed away in 1988 at the age of 28.

Dean had an exciting career as an electrical engineer starting with the Navy missile program before joining NASA in Houston helping to put a man on the moon. He was proud of his service to our country as a signalman in the 10th Mountain Division fighting in Europe during WWII, and continued his involvement in annual gatherings of the 10th Mountain Division veterans association.

He loved boating and operated a 50 foot cruiser on the Caloosahatchee River for many years. He was active in the local flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary helping in search and rescue, safe boating patrols, education, and especially aids to navigation that mark the boating channels.

Dean was actively involved in the First Church, Christ Scientist Ft Myers. He was a life long Christian Scientist. This formed his foundation of universal love and compassion, his passion to be of service to others, and his unwavering belief of eternal life as a present reality.

In Dean's final conversation with his son Tim, he explained he was studying computerized social networking and personal websites at Principia College, and his plan to build a website when he returned to Ft Myers. In his memory and to celebrate his life, his family has and built and launched www.DanielDeanBecker.com, a memorial site in lieu of a memorial service. The many friends he touched may read and share stories and photos, and communicate with his family either on the website or by sending an email to memories@DanielDeanBecker.com.
