Thomas Charles Touhey, Sr

Aug. 3, 1934 – Aug. 21, 2003

Thomas Charles Touhey, Sr., 69, of County Line Road in New Carlisle, Ind., passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, of natural causes. He died while working maintenance at the J.M.S. building.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1934, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Timothy Aloysius and Wava Touhey. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Maria Voss in 1989, and by a grandson, Seth Eckert in 1998.

Mr. Touhey retired from the former Bendix Corporation in 1986 as a shipping supervisor. Then, in 1987, he began working with John Friedline at the J.M.S. building in maintenance.

On May 5, 1984, Thomas Charles married Rhonda Flemming, who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Frances Marie Touhey of Mishawaka, Theresa Rose (Brian) Eckert of New Carlisle, Laurie Anne Touhey of New Carlisle, Rachael Lynn (Dave) Williams of South Bend and Dawn Renee (Karl) Conjalka of New Carlisle; sons, Thomas Charles Touhey Jr. of Koontz Lake, Ind., Joseph Timothy (Lisa) Touhey of Cassopolis, Mich., and Kevin Karl (Cherie) Luhrsen of Mishawaka, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor (Leonard) Stitt of Berea, Ohio; and by a brother, Charles William (Dorothy) Kubsch of South Bend.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 24, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the New Carlisle Cemetery, with military honors.

Mr. Touhey was a Navy veteran who servied during the Korean Conflict, was a member of American Legion, Post 297, New Carlisle, and the Bowlers Country Club.
