James Edward Myers

Aug. 12, 1936 – March 25, 2003

James E. Myers, 66, of Edwardsburg, Mich., beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague, passed away after a short but valiant battle with lung cancer at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind., surrounded by his family.

Jim was born Aug.12, 1936, in South Bend, to Philip R.and Mary Ellen (Glavin) Myers, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Philip R.Myers.

On Aug. 23, 1958, Jim married the love of his life, Barbara Louise Koblick. Barbara survives with their three daughters, Pattie (and Linda) Kardia of Ann Arbor, Mich., Michele Myers-Thoele of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Stephanie (and Gordon) Wagoner of Edwardsburg. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Heather and Brittney of Kalamazoo, Emily and Andrea of Edwardsburg, and Kelsey and Gabriel of Ann Arbor.

Jim ran his own communications business, Interface Concepts, in South Bend for the last 16 years. He graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute with an electronic engineering degree following his 1954 graduation from Washington Clay High School.He was a member of IBEW Local 153, the Garver Lake Conservation Club, the Southwestern Michigan Corvette Club, and previously the Elkhart Moose Lodge and the South Bend Sodbusters 4x4 Club. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, classic car collector, marvelous cook, dog lover, and serious card player.He will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor.He was a stickler for detail—a perfectionist.Dad was always there at the end of the phone line when we needed him.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.on Saturday, March 29, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend.Friends may call in the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 28, and from 12:30 p.m.until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association
