~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was an essayist his entire adult life writing every day. Topics ranged from the history of the Arrowhead region of Minnesota to any topic that caught his fancy. Although he went to and graduated from college, his knowledge came from his constant studying. Up until the time he died, he was taking courses (by mail) on subjects ranging from small engine repair to ornithology. When he got interested in something he learned everything he could -- took up biking at age 55 and biked about 200 miles per week. Learned how and did all the repairs on the many bikes he owned. At the time of his death, he had a library of thousands of books -- classics and non-fiction. Some of his books were donated to the Gunflint Trail Historical Society in northern Minnesota and the rest were given to a man from whom he had purchased many of them...Marcia C Lang (wife)
