Victor Joseph Couch, 93, of South Bend, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2007) at the home of his daughter in Lakewood, Colo.

He was born March 13, 1914, in South Bend to Fredrick and Cecilia (Gooley) Couch. He married Margaret Mary Berndt on April 20, 1940, in South Bend. She died on May 10, 2000.

Mr. Couch is survived by five sons, William G. (Chris) Couch of Watertown, Wis., John F. Couch of Denver, Victor J. (Debi) Couch II of Palm Bay, Fla., and Robert F. (Patti) Couch and Michael A. Couch, both of South Bend; five daughters, Mary Ann Bruno of Lakewood, Rita (Bob) Wolf of Stuart, Fla., Rosemarie (Dale) Hollopeter of Castle Rock, Colo., and Betty J. Couch and Margaret (Roger) Schmeltz, both of South Bend; 25 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Margarita Humphrey and Cecilia (Joseph) Bauters, both of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Couch; one daughter, Jane Couch; and five brothers Joseph, Fredrick, Howard, James C. and Leo Couch.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 S.R. 933, South Bend, where a parish rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. The Rev. Neil Wack will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Couch retired after 44 years of service from South Bend Lathe, where he worked in the shipping department as a truck driver. He was a lifelong farmer and a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he was a member of Harvest House. He served as the financial secretary for the Steelworkers Union Local 1722 and was financial secretary of St. Joseph Council AFL-CIO for eight years. Mr. Couch was an usher at Notre Dame football and baseball games for more than 74 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Blue Cloud Abbey, P.O. Box 98, Marvin, SD 57251 or Christ the King Catholic Church.
