William Conrad Whitacre , 84, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2023 at St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart, IN.
William was born on October 20, 1938 in South Bend, IN, to Arnet and Loa (Geifer) Whitacre. He graduated from Clay High School in 1956.
On December 15, 1961 in Brandywine, MI, he married Mildred Harris, who preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Wayne Whitacre of Chicago,IL and Marlene Choromokos of Naperville, IL; 2 grandchildren, Alicia and Neil Choromokos; and sister, Mary Jo Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sharon Whitacre and Donna Marten; brother, Tim Whitacre; and grandson, Leo Choromokos.
During his work career, William worked as a butcher and truck driver. He also owned White Hen Pantries in La Porte.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 110 Hamilton St., Union Mills, IN.
A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
